Experiences in Mudhumalai

When we had trekked up Rangaswamy Betta, Jainy had told me that he was planning a trip to stay in the middle of a dense jungle later. This was one of the things I had always wanted to do and was extremely interested, and cordially invited myself to join him, which he graciously accepted.

Dates: Left from Bangalore on 14-Aug-02, came back on 18-Aug-02 evening.

14 Aug (Wed): Train Journey To Coimbatore Train journey from Bangalore to Coimbatore; traveled overnight standing in the general class compartment of an extremely crowded train for 8.5 hours. Having traveled in flights and AC class trains, this would have been a terrible ordeal had it been a year ago, but now my perception was totally different.

15 Aug (Thu): Arrival at Theppekaadu from Comibatore via
Ooty. Went on a night ride and had a close encounter with some wild elephants.

16 Aug (Fri): Trekked through the jungle guided by Kallan, a local tribal, in search of a secluded waterfall. At night, I took my first walk through the jungle at night with Jainy conquering one of my great enemies my fear.

17 Aug (Sat): Took an elephant ride through the forest witnessed elephants climbing up a steep slope with surprising agility.

18 Aug (Sun): Another trek in the morning through the jungle with Kallan, to track a bison. Left Mudhumalai later in the morning and returned to Bangalore.
