life's maxim upgraded | ಜೀವನದ ತತà³à²µ
When someone is reading a book, I’ve this habit of borrowing for a second and flipping through it and returning it. In one such instance a few years ago, I’d come across a “serene prayer” of three lines. I was so impressed that I later on googled for the exact words and put them down somewhere…
Serene Prayer
Give us courage to change what we can;
the patience to accept what we cannot change;
and the wisdom to know the difference.
So basically I’ve gone with it for quite a while so far. Though I usually find it convenient to put most things into the second category 😉 once in a way I try and put them (esp myself) into the first category as well.
Recently, Nipun suggested an upgraded version of the same prayer. No idea how long the upgrade process will take on me, but I kind of liked the idea:
Give us courage to be the change we wish to see;
the humility to accept our role in that we cannot change;
and the wisdom to keep serving without any expectations.

While I am not a big fan of the previous version of the prayer, I greatly like the upgraded version.
The first line is a version of a M. Gandhi’s quote, the second and third sum up the sensible pessimist’s views on life.
Love it!
