who is successful?

Recently I came across an article about a Police Inspector, who had received quite a few medals in his name from his office, had a family – wife and kids, and a nice big house. All signs of what we conventionally consider as success.

The article said that after some altercation with his wife, he’d shot himself and committed suicide.

There are countless parameters for success, everyone has their own… the one fundamental factor that I believe… is that a man is succesful if he has realised the value of his life.

A story one of my friends told me…

imagine an old tortoise at the bottom of a deep ocean, and a wooden board drifting around somewhere on the surface of this vast ocean. Imagine that once in a year or so the tortoise comes up to the surface. What is the possibility that the wooden board happens to drift around to exactly the same place at that point in time so that the tortoise can get on to it? That is the priviledge of being born as a human!!

    what is boredom?

In my schooldays during the vacation, I’d occasionally complain to Thatha (grandpa) “I’m bored” And he’d reply… “what is that bored, I say… tell me what do you mean by boredom?” What a strange question… I’d start to explain… but couldn’t quite get the words right. It was an interesting question, I never really managed…

There is a story I vaguely recall from one of Alfred Hitchcock‘s collections… this is a murderously summarised version of an excellent murder story… but I can’t remember the reference to the original as I’d read it probably more than a decade ago. —— There was a guy who really hated his boss, having lots…

Simply no other way to describe the smile I saw on his face. It was the last day, the silence was broken, some students had animated conversations, while others still stayed more or less silent. And this particular gentleman was among the more silent ones, quietly having his lunch. I was sitting opposite to him,…

…there is one course, for which the immensity of its value is indisputable.
