  • a trivial act may make a big difference to someone else

I feel somewhat silly writing a small thing like this making a mountain out of a molehill, had forgotten about it, but just recollected it when I got the Smile Newsletter which said : “Share A Kindness Story. Please tell us of a kind act you’ve done, experienced, or even heard of. “

Since we don’t know the way, we have to ask for directions every two minutes. Instead of mapquest-dot-com, India relies on human beings. That’s bad in some ways, that’s inefficient in certain other ways, but it’s heartwarming in few very important ways. – Nipun

And so it was that an elderly man asked me directions for some Nirmala Convent in Malleswaram.

  • procession at Malleswaram

Procession at Malleswaram 18th Cross Ganesha temple this evening (TN Seetharam was a special guest though as I was watching the procession, didn’t go near the dias where I could’ve probably seen him).

Just by chance I happened to end up at the right place at the right time, the timing was perfect to get in the midst of all the crowd and take these video clips. Thoroughly enjoyed myself taking these videos. [definitely want to take up journalism someday ] Hope you like them as well!

Each of these are hardly a couple of minutes and shouldn’t take too long to download.

  • when an injection became inevitable

[This is the memory of something that happened a few years ago, but written in present tense. Currently, dentist technology atleast in Dr. Mani’s clinic in Malleswaram (17th Cross, Sampige Road, Malleswaram) is quite sophisticated i.e. painless. I’ve found his work excellent and more than satisfactory.]

I’ve always thoroughly loathed injections. Just the look of an injection syringe make me shudder. The terrible prospect of an external steel object piercing my delicate skin and goes inside filled me with fear. I would give doctor’s quite a hard time and they’d use all their comforting words to convince me that it was inevitable. Though there have been a few occasions during my childhood days, I’ve more or less managed to steer clear of them for many years. Could hardly bear to see even when someone else was getting it done either!

Here I was, sitting on this chair, and about to have an injection… right inside of my mouth! No escape this time… the bad tooth had to come out…

Dr. Mani our veteran family dentist (and in general a truly wonderful gentleman), casually filled up his syringe with local anesthesia… while I glared at it with horror. It would soon my stabbing my gums… cause me immense trauma… 😥

My entire body was tensed – rigid… my wrists gripping on the armrest for dear life, my wincing face anticipating the horror that was to come…

  • Gandhi in Malleswaram

Was passing by the Gandhi Bhavan in Malleswaram on an evening walk with my wife and noticed a notice outside of some lecture going on inside. I’d sort of taken for granted that any lecture there was probably for old people who had nothing else to do, but Vijetha went over and had a look at the board – it was a talk on naturapathy and the nature of vegetables and was interested. I somehow reluctantly followed… (more…)

  • the reluctant autorickshaw

The following is something I’d written a while ago in a “learn kannada” forum… Real life incidents though not exactly verbatim…

Auto-rickshaw drivers of Bangalore nowadays have become more selective than infy in ‘choosing’ their ‘projects’! They usually refuse to go wherever a passenger wants to go, and drive off, and one has to stop several autos before getting a ride 😈 All these are unrelated incidents…
