Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And nothing else matters

This was composed just for fun, using some computer software, using short clips that can be assembled together, much like building blocks. Other examples of software to create music on a PC are FLStudio or lmms.
I’m not a musician, I have no knowledge of musical instruments. I think it has a sort of abrupt ending but I spent over an hour so at some point had to finalise it
Comments/criticism welcome. -
common man in the mirror
Friday evening I started off on a bus journey for the long weekend as I’d applied for leave on Monday.
The bus was crowded and as I’d gotten on early, I was sitting down. A couple with a baby boy got on. Its somewhat tough carrying a kid in a crowded rattling swering bus. Being a bit tired/lazy and somewhat disinclined to offer my seat esp with a long journey ahead, I offered to hold the kid instead. The man offered me the kid who unhesitantly came to my arms. They family seemed to be manual laborers, with the baby having pretty dirty clothes and hair. I had nice clean clothes, but nevertheless I took him with an invisible reluctance. On the way I couldn’t help reflecting on the irony – the baby was so dirty outside, and so pure inside. And I was so clean outside, and so dirty and hypocritical inside! 🙄 😆 My work was clearly cut out for three days of silence before me.

children are the future
I’ve heard this song countless times over the years. But somehow after my three day workshop for chilren’s camps last weekend, it makes more sense than ever.
Here are the lyrics:

lyrics of uyire (song from film Bombay)
Recently I was watching Bombay, a top class movie (directed by Mani Ratnam) based on the communal riots in Mumbai after the shameful Babri Masjid demolition, a dark scar in our nation’s history.
The year 1995 when this movie was released was a nice era when though I was in engineering college, we school friends were in touch on a regular basis. This song was one of our favorites, and we listened to it countless times. This song makes me takes me back in time!
The context behind the song is that the man is waiting for the woman, not knowing whether she will accept his love and turn up or not.
As my Tamil knowledge is neglibile, I never knew the wordings of this melodious song till now, when I read the subtitles of the movie. So here are the lyrics translated to English, of the Tamil song Uyire…
Dearest one, come and become one with me
My beloved, make me one with youMemories, become a part of me
Oh fair Moon, become one with the sky
If there is love, let it bloom before my eyes
If fate intervenes, make me one with the dustDearest one, come and become one with me
My beloved, make me one with youThere’s life in my body as I await the breath of my life
If my little flower dosen’t come I’ll turn to ashes on this mountain side
I don’t care if I lose my life
That’s not the reason for this song
To have a bright future with my love
That’s what I longIs it the beginning or the end?
Ive left it in your hands
Dearest one, today I’ve become one with you
I’ve overstepped my limits for the love of you
Memories, you’ve become a part of me
Dreams, you’ve become a part of my realityJust one look & I lost myself
How could I stay away from you?
When one eye lights up with love
Won’t the other one brighten up too?Like a river flows through the rocks
I came to see my beloved’s faceLike the gently waiting breeze
I came to hear my beloved’s voice
Even my tears taste sweet todayIn the Sufi tradition of Islam which really appeals to my heart, God is referred to as ‘beloved’. From this perspective, any of the romantic film songs can sound like a devotional song! 🙂

fantastic song, amazing lyrics…
Rakesh had once sent out a mail of that subject, having this link to a video…
Some comments on that link were pretty funny 🙂

Anyway, the video is a pretty cool remixed song, the lyrics are here: Baz Luhrmann Lyrics – Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen)Â Â
Googled to find that these are the original lyrics of the song: Quindon Tarver – Everybody’s Free (To Feel Good) LYRICSÂ
Came across another related link… list of pretty simple, pragmatic ideas…

music out of the ordinary
Still buried under tons of miscellaneous activities but felt compelled to write a short note.
Heard just a few seconds of some music and felt there was something unique about it. My aunt was viewing Doordarshan for a change, and the violinist playing the music was Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan
The extraordinary thing was the unpredictability.
Usually while listening to any music, we almost half-expect the next note. There is a certain sequence to it, and when that sequence is pleasing it becomes music for us. But sooner or later, we get tuned into this sequence, and the listening becomes more and more passive and uninvolved. We eventually lose the freshness of every single moment.
Here the extraordinary thing with this music was that it – not just the notes, but also the sometimes long pauses of abrupt silence between the notes – seemed to be totally random – somewhat like noise, but at the same time, it was not noise but beautiful music! Almost like a contradiction! That tendency to just becoming ending up becoming a passive listener wasn’t possible at all, one felt compelled into becoming an active listener for each and every moment!
Since I’m writing this in a hurry, don’t know if I’ve made any sense 😉

Every day ordinary sounds from everywhere
You might want to browse through this site – I found it quite fascinating.
Its basically the collections of a guy (& his wife) who collects sounds.Every day ordinary sounds from everywhere.
I couldnt agree more with him when he says:
“The world makes its own music, but we rarely listen with naive ears.”This was my favorite… (It contains is a 53 MB MP3 file that I downloaded today at home)
One of the more memorable parts of my honeymoon was trekking the Annapurna Circuit in central Nepal with my wife Bronwyn.
For three weeks, we walked: up one valley, over a 17,500′ pass, and down another, through dozens of towns and climate zones. The pictures below should give you some sense of the environment we hiked through and what it contains (here are more). It’s the most popular trek in Nepal with good reason.
