sulochanosho’s striking post Dead Scripture and Live Nature reminds us about learning from live nature… but most of the time we miss this, like this guy in this story from Paulo Coelho’s short stories for parents and grand parents…
A Sufi master and his disciple were walking
across a desert in Africa. When night fell, they
pitched their tent and lay down to rest.
‘How silent it is!’ said the disciple.
‘Never say “how silent it is”,’ replied the
teacher. ‘Say rather: “I cannot hear nature”.
The Sufi story there speaks and reveals ‘that’, which many times our mountains of words may fail to do.
Fortunately or unfortunately the words are the greatest hurdle. But without words we can’t do or communicate anything, that’s another riddle. Man is so obsessed that he even may mess up with the Nature and misses it. God alone knows as to when do we hit that ‘middle’ point.
